'ŌLELO NO'EAU
Hawaiian Words of Wisdom

I mohala no ka lehua i ke ke'eke'ehi 'ia e ka ua.
The Lehua blossom unfolds when the rain treads on it.

Shower others with kindness and praise. Just as a flower needs water, people need nurturing. Compassion is the greatest gift we can give, lifting the spirits of those around us.

'A'a i ka hula, waiho ka hilahila i ka hale.
When one wants to dance the hula, bashfulness should be left at home.

Let it all hang out! Live life with passion and push past fear.

Ho 'ola 'i na manu i ke aheahe.
The birds poise quietly in the gentle breezes.

Pause to enjoy the beauty all around you. Be at peace with the world.

Ho'okahi ka 'ilau like ana.

Wield the paddles together.

Work together to move forward. Don't be a canoe filler—a useless person. Many hands make light the work.

He 'ōpū hālau.
A house-like stomach.

Said of a person who is kind and hospitable. Be gracious to everyone you meet.

Kūkulu ka 'ike i ka 'ōpua.
Revelations are found in the clouds.

Listen to your dreams. Look for signs in nature. Connect with the spirit world. Trust your intuition.

I hole 'ia no ka i'e i ke kau o ka lā.
The time to cut designs in a tapa beater is when the sun is high.

Be patient. Act when the time is right, and the Universe will support you.

'Ukuli'i ka pua, onaona i ka mau'u.
Tiny is the flower, yet it scents the grasses around it.

Never give up. Believe you can make a difference.

Aloha mai no, aloha aku; o ka huhu ka mea e ola 'ole ai.
When love is given, love should be returned; anger is the thing that gives no life.

There is joy in the transforming power of love. Anger hurts the person who is angry, injuring the body, mind, and spirit. Forgiveness mends hearts. Love soothes and heals.
